PRESS RELEASE:

Continued decline of Michigan’s economy has made Peter Pettalia more determined to take a stand for citizens in the Michigan legislature.

On Friday, Pettalia announces his candidacy for the Michigan State Represetative of the 106th House District.

Pettalia brings to the job a long history of serving northeast Michigan, previously supervisor in Presque Isle Township for 16 years and volunteer fire fighter for E. Grand Lake Fire Department for 15 years. Pettalia currently serves as chair for the Presque Isle Township Parks and Recreation Commission as well as vice-chair for the State Park Advisory Board for Negwegon, Rockport and Thompson Harbor State Parks.

Pettalia, a long-time partner in an Alpena small business, will use his experience in working with people of local communities and businesses to fight legislation to increase taxes and support legislation to help create jobs for Michigan families.

He made things happen for Presque Isle Township.  Soon after Pettalia became supervisor, a resident came to the Township Board with a proposal that lighthouse parks would be better managed locally.  Pettalia helped to secure a grant to purchase twenty seven acres of land with the Old Lighthouse and park form the State.  Soon after, they secured funding for the Township to purchase ninety-eight acres to include the Presque Isle New Lighthouse and keepers quarters from the Bureau of Land Management.

A new Museum Society was formed and the cooperative has since completely restored the 1905 House into a beautiful museum.  The Parks and Recreation Committee was formed and a development plan was executed.  The township evolved a great deal with the leadership of Pettalia and fellow board members.

“Northeast Michigan has not had someone to stand up and fight for the local businesses or communities in a long time.  There are a number of projects that are being held up at the state level that would create jobs for northeast Michigan right now.  If the people are going to takeback their state, they have to have someone they know they can call who will listen and do something for northeast Michigan. I’m running for State Representative to return state government to the people of Michigan,” said Pettalia, R-Presque Isle Twp.  “Our beautiful state has a lot to offer.  Through hard work and determination, we can fix Michigan and put it back to work.”

A resident of Presque Isle Township since 1977, Pettalia and his wife of 32 years, Karen, have two grown children.

Pettalia is running to replace term-limited State Rep. Andy Neumann.
